#10LETGO

Learn from the past and let go

There are some things (and stages) we go through in life that we struggle to let go of… the memories left behind that we would rather forget. When we should be learning from our mistakes and moving on, there are some of those moments that we just can’t let go of. We’re brought down with regret, thinking of the things that should never have happened to us or the things we should have never had done.

The world is not perfect. We want it to be, but unfortunately there is always something that comes up. People will piss us off, we have to work or do things we don’t necessary want to do, we have to engage with people we don’t particularly like, people constantly want our attention, the bills need to be paid, there is always too much to do and mistakes and regrets are bound to happen at some point. We hold onto and attach ourselves to what we want the world and people to be like. There will never be a time when life is simple, however your willingness to LET GO will provide clear space and energy to start fresh memories. We all know anger and resentment are toxic and these feelings will keep you in the past, which does not have anything new to offer. Life is too short to dwell on it, so practice accepting that there is a chance to let go to feel peace within yourself.

#08GENEROSITY

Give more than you take

Generous People
Christmas is here and is all about giving, so I felt it was timely I write about this topic – the topic of generosity. If you are anything like me, gifts are on the mind RIGHT NOW and you are thinking what to give to who this year, way in advance.

But, why should we be waiting until Christmas to practice some generosity and to be generous? It takes so little and it is so easy to be generous, it should be a daily practice in all of us, right? I’m a true believer in giving – generosity is in my blood. My parents were extremely generous, even though they had very little, they would have given the shirts off their backs for anyone less fortunate, or for anyone that came into their lives for that matter. Being generous makes me feel good, inside and out. There is nothing that gives me more pleasure than to watch someone enjoy my generosity or being part of and witnessing someone else giving in some way.

I don’t believe you become wealthy in life and then you decide to be generous. I just believe that some people give and some people just don’t – there are plenty of people with little money but are the most generous people I know. When I think of someone who is generous, I think nice things about that person. Don’t you just love generous people, what a wonderful trait to have! While, on the other hand, there are others with loads of money who don’t give (well not for no reason). I know of many who are rich and are unbelievably tight with money, usually these types only give when they are in the presence of others to look good or give for something in return… I am sure you can think of a few as well!

#01SIMPLETHINGS

Be grateful for the simple things

Like many, my childhood days, were amongst the happiest of my life. We lived a simple life, but our lives were nonetheless joyous, adventurous and filled with loads of good fun. Happiness was always found in small things on a regular day. As life progresses, it’s sad to see that some of us lose sight of the simple things. We forget the modest lifestyles, silliness and simple pleasures of our pasts. In searching for more, we often end up feeling surprisingly dissatisfied. Focusing on the adult equivalents of the simple pleasures we once enjoyed can reinvigoratean appreciation of uncomplicated pleasures, reducing stress, increasing our gratitudeand allowing us to live richer, happier lives in the present. For the last few years I have focused on enjoying the simple things that make me happy which has truly de-cluttered many elements of my life and made me get into the habit of focusing what is important and what is not.
