Be you, your true, real, unique self
Be you, your true, real, unique self
I know for sure, especially when I was younger, that I was often reluctant to give myself a go and be, me, my true, real, unique self and embrace who I really am. I was often afraid to be instantly judged and fearful that people would talk behind my back and not accept me. The truth I did not know then, but most certainly know now, was that the people who make an impact on humanity are the ones who are the most different and unique and unfortunately, often do feel excluded. Your true strength and beauty is your own uniqueness. Remember there is only one YOU, and the people who stand out the most and make a true difference are the people who exercise their individuality and are themselves, rather than trying to conform and be like others. What a shame too much of our time is spent on attempting to be normal, trying to look normal and trying to fit in and be like everyone else. Being yourself enables you to pass on optimism and positive energy, which forms good life habits to the people in your circle.READ MORE SHARESign up
Give more than you take
Christmas is here and is all about giving, so I felt it was timely I write about this topic – the topic of generosity. If you are anything like me, gifts are on the mind RIGHT NOW and you are thinking what to give to who this year, way in advance.
But, why should we be waiting until Christmas to practice some generosity and to be generous? It takes so little and it is so easy to be generous, it should be a daily practice in all of us, right? I’m a true believer in giving – generosity is in my blood. My parents were extremely generous, even though they had very little, they would have given the shirts off their backs for anyone less fortunate, or for anyone that came into their lives for that matter. Being generous makes me feel good, inside and out. There is nothing that gives me more pleasure than to watch someone enjoy my generosity or being part of and witnessing someone else giving in some way.
I don’t believe you become wealthy in life and then you decide to be generous. I just believe that some people give and some people just don’t – there are plenty of people with little money but are the most generous people I know. When I think of someone who is generous, I think nice things about that person. Don’t you just love generous people, what a wonderful trait to have! While, on the other hand, there are others with loads of money who don’t give (well not for no reason). I know of many who are rich and are unbelievably tight with money, usually these types only give when they are in the presence of others to look good or give for something in return… I am sure you can think of a few as well!
open your heart and soul
Best friends are one of the most wonderful, blessed gifts life can dish out. If you are lucky enough to have a few, a couple or just one ‘bestie’ who stay with you for life, you are lucky. I am fortunate enough to have a few. They know who they are, and I would not exchange them for anything.
Like most of the population, I have gone through the tough and challenging times life has to offer. When the tough times are in, it’s my mates who become my backbone, offering the unconditional friendship, beyond anything one can imagine. We have had some hilarious, precious moments that I would not trade for all the diamonds in the world (and I really like… no, no love diamonds).
I am old enough now to truly reflect on the past and realise how lucky I am to have them in my life. My take is that you are much better off having a handful of best friends that you can rely on and love you, rather than trying to be mates with everyone.READ MORE SHARESign up
