#07GOODLIFEHABITS

Protect your level of happiness

Good life habits…
Ups and downs in life….yep, I have experienced plenty. Love, disappointment, children, divorce, success, loss, betrayal, satisfaction, rejection, excitement, achievement and fulfillment – just to name a few. These painful, heartbreaking and beautifully breathtaking moments leave us with our life memories. Memories that make all of us stronger along our life path. I know the more ups and downs I’ve had, stronger I have become – wiser because I made the mistakes, happier because I had the sadness, resilient because I have experienced the criticism. People (and things) have left my life that I never thought would go and I’ve had obstacles that I never thought would stand in my way.

During the good times, it is always so easy to think positively, but when you experience those hard times (and we all do), with a combination of self-doubt and low self-esteem at times, it seems such a struggle to bounce back and exercise good habits into your life. We don’t always see that we’re going to make it out, or how far we’ll get at all. For most, this is a time to lean on your most trusted circle to provide what strength and advice they can. I also try and remember to practice some core ‘good life habits and rituals’ to get me through all those uncertainties that our wonderful lives have to offer.

#05BESTFRIENDS

open your heart and soul

Best friends are one of the most wonderful, blessed gifts life can dish out. If you are lucky enough to have a few, a couple or just one ‘bestie’ who stay with you for life, you are lucky. I am fortunate enough to have a few. They know who they are, and I would not exchange them for anything.

Like most of the population, I have gone through the tough and challenging times life has to offer. When the tough times are in, it’s my mates who become my backbone, offering the unconditional friendship, beyond anything one can imagine. We have had some hilarious, precious moments that I would not trade for all the diamonds in the world (and I really like… no, no love diamonds).

I am old enough now to truly reflect on the past and realise how lucky I am to have them in my life. My take is that you are much better off having a handful of best friends that you can rely on and love you, rather than trying to be mates with everyone.

#04STARTINGOVERAGAIN

start over again

A long, long time ago, when I still lived amongst the tedious landscape of corporate life, my ultimate vision was always to follow my life dream. However, the security and safety that came with this life, along with fear, failure, ego and self-doubt, held me back year after year. I used excuses like “no time” which is really a bit of a non-excuse. There is always time if you want something bad enough, I just did not know (or want to know) that at the time.
Finally and thankfully, I experienced a sudden change in my corporate role, so I took the gap and finally made the punt to follow my gut and start over. Looking back on this experience, I have jotted down 10 very simple tips which would have been invaluable advice during that time. If you want your dreams to come true, it really doesn’t take that much to get started. With some planning, you too can make it happen, you owe it to yourself to give your dreams a go…

positive thinking

I have always been conscious of what I am saying to myself and how I am saying it. Looking back on some of the most challenging times throughout my career, as well as my personal life, I have come to believe that this ‘inner chatter’ of positive thinking is what got me through those moments. The one person you chat to daily is yourself, within your own mind. These self-reflexive thoughts we communicate to ourselves, control both the way we feel and act, and ultimately turn from mere thoughts into reality. It is only by becoming fully aware of our thoughts that we can catch the ones that are negative and stop them in their tracks.

The following 10 tips about your thought patterns with some positive thinking will hopefully inspire and motivate you to create a positive future. With some practice, you can completely control the way you think, and it is such habitual thought patterns that will ultimately determine your level of happiness…
